The MacRae Hunting Grey Tartan Cashmere Scarf is a grey-based tartan with tonal overchecks. Kintail, to which they are said to have migrated in the 14th century, is the home of the MacRaes. They supported the MacKenzies and were Chamberlains of Kintail and Constables of Eilean Donan Castle. The MacRaes were Jacobites and served the Royal Stuarts faithfully and well. Duncan MacRae, 5th of Kintail, received the lands of Inverinate in 1557. At the Battle of Sheriffmuir, in 1715, their bravery was outstanding and many of the leading men were killed. The Fernaig Manuscript (1688-1693), which was compiled by Duncan MacRae of Inverinate, is a valuable contribution to Gaelic literature.
