Description

This name has a local origin, being taken from any crag, or (in Scots) craig, near which a man might have his dwelling. In the 15th century, no less than three families claimed to beof that Ilka, that is, the chiefly House. From William the Lionas reign onwards, the name occurs in old records, and, in the 15th and 16th centuries, it is particularly common in the Edinburgh district.
